Bash is Back!

Featured Replies

Utumno is releasing RC's fast and furious in preparation for a new release. Details and download links on their Discord channel. He's looking for testers to give it a run.

Apparently MO2 under Windows 11 was busted with a recent update. If you're having issues starting WB from MO2, the MO2 team has requested that you tell them about it.

Wrye Bash RC3 is now on Nexus.

He really is in a hurry. :D

Now 313 is released, making the RC release on Nexus pointless...

I guess he's pretty confident he got it working. It's been fine for me. I've been playing FO4 and the old version had some issues. Unfortunately the bashed patch doesn't do much. They still need to set up all the tags.

I just reverted to 312.1 for Fallout 3, as v313 is broken in MO2. 313 looks in the game directory for files instead of in MO2's virtual file system, and then flakes out when it cannot find any mod-added BSAs.

Which version of Windows are you on? There is a problem with MO2 under Windows 11 24H2. I'm not sure it's the same issue though.

You might want to report it to the WB guys. Unfortunately they are using Discord for support. I think they need to look at switching to another platform.

Anyway their Discord for support and reporting issues is https://discord.com/channels/537706885965676554/537710082755133460

Why are you using MO2? Why not just use Wrye Bash?

That's my Windows version. I tried to use the link they provided for the latest pre-release version in case that fixed it, but the link doesn't work on Firefox or on Edge, on this PC or on my Windows 10 PC (which has the Discord app). So I just re-downloaded v312.1 again from Nexus and installed it only for FO3.

MO2 is far superior to Wrye Bash for mod management, there's no good reason to use WB instead unless you're using only a handful of mods.

When you open the link in dropbox, you have to mouse over the installer and then select download. You can't just click on the link. Then it will try to get you to sign up, but you can click the "Just download" or something like that at the bottom.

How is MO2 superior? I've got about 60 mods for FO3 and about 100 mods for FO4.

One thing that WB really needs to change is its game centric installs. I install only one instance for all my games and my multiple Oblivion instances. Installing it that way is nonsensical, but it works much better.

MO2 for Oblivion isn't even an option because I have multiple Oblivion game instances. I'd have to redo everything from scratch and I'm too invested in my current setup.

I can upload the last pre-release here if you like. Just let me know.

Edit: I might be able to use MO2 for FO4 since the Bashed patch isn't available for that game anyway. I added Bash tags to some mods that were missing them in FO3 so the Bashed patch is working really well, so I wouldn't be inclined to use MO2 since I need to use WB anyway.

The link doesn't go to dropbox, it goes to Discord like the one you provided, where it then either says you're not getting in, or demands it verify your email address, or some other fail I don't recall now. I lost interest and downgraded instead, and that version works fine so I'm happy :)

Certainly it would be no point in you using MO2 for Oblivion as you already have the equivalent setup of MO2 but without the efficiency of the virtual file system (multiple profiles instead of multiple installations), so switching would be a headache. But for a game where you aren't already heavily invested in a multi-install setup, MO2 should be used.

You can still have a bash patch through MO2, you simply set it up to launch WB for you, so that WB reads the virtual file system instead of the actual game directory (precisely the reason I needed to downgrade WB, so I could generate a bash patch for Fallout 3 using my MO2-managed mods). Same for xEdit, xLODGen, CSE, GECK, etc.

You have to be a member of Discord to access the server. The link I was referring to is the nightly in the wip-builds channel. It's definitely Dropbox - says so right in the link. Here's the link for the download: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/6s8shxn12zfs4oh5tnfn3/AB_gYNddFa8PywlYp1o0Fi8?rlkey=tqrz2oatj308n51zv3w039bcy&e=1&dl=0

I linked the Discord channel in case you wanted to report the issue.

Yeah but you aren't telling me what's so great about MO2. I understand that symbolic links would be better if you have multiple instances of the same game, but there's no benefit if you just have one. It's an added level of complexity. Given that you still need to run WB for the bashed patch, I don't understand why you'd want to use another tool for the mod management.

Well I'm not being paid to promote so I can't be bothered to sell it, but MO2 is better.

The developers should have posted the download link in the updates announcement thread, instead they post a link to Discord saying click here for info on where to download. A very effective wall to prevent downloads.

Most people shouldn't be downloading the nightlies. They are there for people with support issues who have been told to download them to fix their problem.

They post to the support link for people to report their problem. Then they'll be told to download a nightly if Utumno releases one to fix the problem.
